Abbie Jay Mathis Jr., 70, born December 16, 1954 to Abbie J Sr. and Luetta V. Cooper Mathis of Ocoee, FL where he was raised and lived before moving to Okahumpka about 30years ago to enjoy country living. He found his calling early in life as a concrete Mason. He worked for many years in the construction industry and was well known for his fine craftsmanship, brick mailboxes, stone fireplaces and eye for detail with each project. He was an excellent small engine and automotive mechanic too.
In his free time, Abbie enjoyed fishing and gator hunting, tinkering on his tractors, working on cars and trucks. He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and loved his rooster.
He passed peacefully on June 24, 2025 at Cornerstone Hospice. Survived by his daughter, Stephanie Sparks (Greg), granddaughter, Lindsey Shirley & great granddaughter, Lorelai Noble. Also his oldest sister, Brenda Fox and his youngest sister, Donna and her husband, Bryan Hewitt. He will also be leaving behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, whose lives he touched.
Abbie was preceded in death by his parents and two younger brothers, Roy & Troy Mathis. Also his niece, Melissa Kay Hewitt.
Visitation will be held from 10AM to 11AM on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home, 1148 E. Plant St., Winter Garden, FL. Funeral services will be held at 11am, also at the funeral home. Abbie will then laid to rest at the Orlando Memorial Gardens in Apopka, FL.
