Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Anjanee Jaikaran (Boodram), passed away peacefully, at 92, on August 26th, 2023, at home with her loved ones by her side, in Florida.
Anjanee, known by many as “Annie” or “Nanny”, was born on January 21st, 1931, in Mora Point, Mahaicony Creek, Guyana.
She was a teacher and mother to many. In Guyana, she was a single mother that raised her three children, a stepson and several nieces and nephews. As a seamstress, she sewed and did embroidery work, along with basket weaving. She also taught others, like her cousin Omadei, how to sew and do embroidery work. With her love and determination, she made sure they all went to school and received a good education to start their lives.
When she immigrated to the US, she worked as a nanny. She enjoyed watching the kids she took care of, mature into adulthood.
With all the children she took care of in her lifetime, she tried to instill in them the values of independence, love and respect.
Once retired, she devoted herself to the Hindu temple and enjoying her time with family and friends.
Throughout her life, Anjanee loved to cook and bake for her family and friends and listen to her religious music. As she always said, “her food was made with love”.
She is predeceased by her son, Subhash Prashad.
She is survived by her daughter Shanti Durga and her husband Bram, her son Chandra Prashad and his wife Erlene, her grandson, Subhash Prashad Durga and his wife Briana, her granddaughters Natasha Durga and Sabrina Prashad, and her great-grandson Owen Subhash Durga.
