In Loving Memory of Aubrey Leroy Nelson, Jr.

October 3, 1937 – August 17, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Aubrey Leroy Nelson, Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Aubrey left this world peacefully on August 17, 2025, surrounded by love and cherished memories.

Born in Harlem, New York City, to Othelia Frances Baker and Aubrey Leroy Nelson, Sr., Aubrey was the middle child of five children, all of whom preceded him in death: Rosalind Mina, Etheline, Reginald Robert, and Montague Daniel. His upbringing instilled in him the values of family, hard work, and dedication that would guide him throughout his life.

Aubrey attended Dwight Clinton High School in the Bronx, where he was a student and athlete, playing football. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. His commitment to service continued as he pursued a rewarding career with the NYC Fire Department, joining in 1960 and dedicating 32 years of his life to protecting and serving the community, ultimately concluding his career as a Fire Marshall in 1992.

Aubrey is survived by his two sons, Anthony (wife Minty and their son, Armen), and Michael (his daughter Brittany and great granddaughter, Braelyn McKenzie), along with his daughter Arlene Preyor (wife Judy) and son, David (wife Sandie and two daughters, Olivia and Loren). He leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to his four nephews, two nieces, and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his grandson Anthony Jr, and nephew, Trendell, whose memories will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew him.

Aubrey married his first wife, Beverly, with whom he shared the birth of his two boys - Anthony and Michael. Later in life, he found love once more with his second wife, Barbara, creating a blended family with Arlene and David that was filled with adventures.

Beyond his family, Aubrey was a friend to many, forging connections with fellow firefighters and paddle ball enthusiasts throughout his life. His kindness and warmth touched countless lives, and he will be remembered for his generous spirit and the friendships he nurtured.

A true animal lover, Aubrey opened his home and heart to many creatures, from geckos to snapping turtles, showcasing his compassionate nature and unique spirit.

As we say goodbye to Aubrey, let us remember the laughter, love, and kindness he brought into our lives. His legacy of service, family, and friendship will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. In honoring his memory, let us carry forward his love for life and the compassion he showed to others. He will forever be missed and cherished by those who loved him.
