Carlos Velez

November 16, 1912 — March 31, 2015

Carlos A. Velez Moreira passed away in the comforting presence of his family on March 31, 2015 at the age of 102 after a short stay at the VITAS Inpatient Hospice in Winter Garden, Florida.

Mr. Velez was born on November 16, 1912 in Calderon Manabi, Ecuador. Carlos immigrated to the United States in 1969 and established residence in Perth Amboy, NJ, where he raised his children and made innumerable friendships until 2002. He then resided in Florida with family until his passing. Mr. Velez, also lovingly known as Don Carlos, was preceded in death by his loving wife, Isabel and son, Carlos; he is survived by his children, Belford of Ecuador, Miriam Barrera, Teresa Feijoo, and Francisco, all of Florida, Leonardo of Chicago, Luisa Liriano, Jaime, Roberto, and Mayda Cruz, all of New Jersey, as well as their spouses, 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him and were inspired by his strength, will and commitment to his family.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, April 6, 2015, from noon until 1 pm at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home, 1148 E. Plant St., Winter Garden, FL, 34787. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm at the funeral home with interment and a brief graveside service immediately following at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Carlos's name to St. Andrew Catholic Community, 801N. Hastings Street, Orlando, FL 32808 or Seniors First, 3113 Lawton Rd. Suite 250, Orlando, FL. 32803, 407-628-2884.
