Evangelina "Gela" Gonzalez Aviles

July 31, 1938 — June 16, 2023

Evangelina Gonzalez known to most as Gela passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at her home in Ocoee, accompanied by her family. She was 84. Born in Moca, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Pascual Aviles and Anacleta Ramirez.  She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Winter Garden, FL and often also attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka, FL, where she was a devout practicing Catholic.  She would often be found praying the Rosary on her knees for her children and those in need.

Gela was married for over 50 years to the late Antonio Gonzalez and had eight children.  She was amazing and an example of heaven on Earth.  She loved to cook and make family and friends feel welcomed and loved.  Many knew her for her food and her famous rice, fried wings, "pastelillos", "pasteles", "Limbe" and "Budin", and others for her famous "cafe Bustelo", that she happily offered to you as soon as you walked in the door, along with some cheese and crackers.  She was truly our Queen, our rock, and our shining light.  She was always praying, and listening to mass or Christian music, and in her earlier years, you would often catch her watching a novela like Marimar, Simplemente Maria, or El Derecho De Nacer.  During these times the kitchen was closed. She enjoyed family time and would play cards, Bingo, or dominoes with her kids and grandkids and was pretty competitive.

As news of her passing became known, these are some of the wonderful words you heard about her: "Gela was a beautiful, respectful, and kind-loving woman.  I never in my life seen her angry."  "My comadre was truly a saint and one of the best cooks I knew.  I will always remember how much she helped me and the wonderful times we had on Cortez St. playing Bingo and watching Novelas."  "A beautiful servant of the Lord."  "My Gela was God's Good and Faithful Servant."  "She was a great person, mother, grandmother, and COOK."  Gela will truly be missed!

She is survived by her eight children, Gloria Rodriguez, Jose Gonzalez and his wife Aracelis, David Gonzalez and his wife Daisy, Angel Gonzalez, Carmen Saez and her husband Harry, Evelyn Adame and her husband Maurilio, Yesenia DeJesus and her husband Angel, and Nelson Gonzalez and his wife Jacqueline.  Her grandchildren Nathaniel and Javier Perez, Doralee Saez, Desiree and Joevanni Rodriguez, Xavier and Yalitza Adame, Ilyana Washington and her husband Devin. Nayeli and Yaneliz DeJesus, Lori Gomez, Jonathan and Andrea Gonzalez, and Alanis, Nelson and Antonio Gonzalez.  Her great grandchildren Makaiel, Olivia and Theo Perez, Nevaeh Saleem, and Soleina Washington.  Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son in laws Alfredo Perez and Jose Rodriguez and her grandson Nelson Antonio Gonzalez.

"MAMI, ABUELA, YOU WILL BE MISSED!  I LOVE YOU! LA BENDICION!" 💙
