Gladys D. Helmlinger, 89, passed away at home in Apopka, FL April10, 2021. She was born December 2, 1931 in Andover Township, NJ to Raymond T Dare and Agnes E Prunier Dare. She was a 1949 graduate of Newton High School. She graduated from Newark Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1952. Gladys worked as an RN at East Orange VA hospital, Newton Memorial Hospital, Dr. Hall and several nursing homes during her nursing career. She and her husband Russell Helmlinger, Sr retired and moved to Florida in 1989.
Survivors include her children Wayne Helmlinger of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Raymond Helmlinger (Ellen Stern) of Altamonte Springs, FL, Patricia Helmlinger of Apopka, FL, Margaret Day of Orlando, FL, Russell Helmlinger, Jr (Diana Friedland) of Dingman’s Ferry, PA, and Edith Faasse (Donald Faasse) of Bradenton, FL, and her dear sister Irene Betts of Newton, NJ. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren Eva Helmlinger of Morristown, NJ, Travis Helmlinger of Boonton, NJ, Nicole Helmlinger of NJ, Tami Hill (Troy) of Sussex, NJ, Steven Helmlinger (Chrissy) of Wharton, NJ, Christopher Helmlinger (Ashley) of Dingman’s Ferry, PA, Zachary Day (Veronica Voltaire) of Haines City, FL Courtney Day of Orlando, FL, Kirsten Faasse and Steven Faasse, both of Bradenton, FL. She also leaves 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Russell Helmlinger, Sr, her daughter, Elizabeth Helmlinger, her grandsons, Edward Kymer and Brian Faasse and her great grandson, Wil Gebhard, IV.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to your favorite charity. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2021, 5pm-8pm, at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021, 1pm at the funeral home. Gladys will be buried next to her husband in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
