Army Air Corps veteran Herman R. Gebert Jr.'s bravery and service during World War II earned him three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. He was active at Utah and Omaha beaches and in the Battle of the Bulge and escaped German soldiers twice on the way to prisoner-of-war camps.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Bethke and Diane Magill-Davis; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren.
