James Baker

James A Baker, 83, of Winter Garden passed away on August 23, with family and friends by his side. He was born February 22, 1930 in Luling, Texas to the late Walter and Leona Baker. He was a resident of the Central Florida area since the 1950s. James retired from Seminole County Public Schools in 1992 after working as a Chemistry teacher and school administrator in Orange and Seminole Counties for more than 35 years. Some of the schools he worked with were Colonial High School, Apopka Junior High, Sanford Middle School and Tuskawilla Middle School. James was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He faithfully served as a deacon and on a number of committees at the First Baptist Church of Winter Garden. After retirement, James and his wife, Doris, enjoyed traveling and mission work primarily with Campers On Mission for a number of years. They also traveled south to Homestead, FL and assisted with the Hurricane Andrew Relief Effort. James was predeceased by his wife, Martha Baker after 34 years of marriage. Survivors include his current wife of 27 years, Doris Baker brother Walter Baker, Sr and sister, Betty Tyson Menely all of Texas daughters Jamey Walker of Sanford, FL Cindy Baker of Ocoee Lesa Dickey of Winter Garden and son, Mark Thompson of Winter Garden. James has seven grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.

The viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 27, from 68 p.m. at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 28, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Winter Garden. More information may be found at www.collisoncareyhand.com.
