Jeannie Desir was born in Limbe Haiti on June 21st, 1959. She was the ninth
child in a family of eleven.
She loved to dance and sing and make others laugh. Whenever illness struck,
she was the person to turn to, as she possessed a remedy for every ailment. She
was a shining light who made everyone feel valued and loved. Her warmth,
compassion, and genuine interest in others endeared her to all who knew her.
In her husband’s words: “She was not only my partner but also my best friend,
confidant, and the love of my life. Her laughter was music to my ears, her smile
a beacon of warmth and comfort. We shared everything and her endless support
was a source of strength in every challenge we faced”.
Jeannie was the epitome of love, resilience, and compassion. In 1981 she left
Limbe, Haiti to pursue an education in Port Au Prince, Haiti while helping
raise her sister’s daughter as her own. In 1983, she embarked on a new chapter
migrating to Chicago Illinois. She returned to Haiti to marry the love of her
life Edner Desir on April 5th, 1984. Together, they welcomed two beautiful
children, daughter Joanne Desir-Hazlett and son Jovens Desir. Her devotion
to her family was matched only by her dedication to her faith. She often stated
one of the best decisions she made was becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses
on July 4th, 1988.
Her desire to care for others led her to pursue a career as a Certified Nursing
Assistant in 1989, a profession she cherished deeply. However, her greatest joy
came in April 2021 when she became a regular pioneer, serving her community
with boundless love and compassion. She touched so many and made such
an impact on their lives. Her legacy of love, sacrifice, and unwavering faith will
continue to inspire us all.
