Louis A. Bryson

July 5, 1931 — April 14, 2024

Louis A. Bryson (L.A.) was born on July 5, 1931 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to his parents Sam Bryson and Gertrude Turner Bryson. He was the second child, born of five to Mr. and Mrs. Bryson. Two of their children died at a very early age. In 1943, his family left Mississippi and moved to Richmond, California. He went to Peres Elementary School, Roosevelt Jr. High, and to Richmond High School from where he graduated. At Richmond High School, he was an outstanding, exceptional baseball player. He was watched and followed by several major league baseball scouts. Following his graduation, he was signed to a baseball contract by the St. Louis Browns major league team and sent to their minor league team at Aberdeen, South Dakota to play ball.

His career with the baseball team was short-lived because he was drafted for military service and served in the army from 1952 to 1954. Upon his release from military service, he attended Contra Costa Junior College in Richmond, California, where he met his future wife, Evelyn Livingston. From this meeting occurred a loving courtship and a marriage in 1955 which only ended with his death on April 14, 2024.

Louis was an independent truck driver who owned Louis Bryson Trucking. He was an avid jazz fan and loved listening to jazz music. He and Evelyn had a core group of friends with whom they went camping, fishing, bowling, and other outings. Louis truly enjoyed life and all it had to offer. He loved spending time with his grandchildren making them laugh at his funny jokes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Bryson and Gertrude Bryson Taylor, his sons, Larry Bryson and Michael Bryson, his daughters, Debra Bryson-Hicks and Ingrid Bryson-Whyte. He leaves in sorrow his beloved wife, Evelyn Bryson, two sons, Louis Jr. (Joni), Donald (Candice), and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
