Louis “Lou” Ramsay Dec. 2, 1943 – May 5, 2026
Louis Patrick Ramsay, 82, of Winter Garden, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Born on December 2, 1943, in Ross, California, Lou lived a life grounded in family, education, curiosity and quiet kindness. He was a retired Professor of Accounting at Clemson University, where he spent many years teaching and mentoring students. A firm believer in the value of higher education, Lou took great interest in the academic and career aspirations of his children and grandchildren, always eager to hear about their plans for the future.
Lou is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Macaulay Ramsay, and his seven children from his first marriage to Carol Eloise Ramsay: Charles Ramsay of Chesterfield, Virginia; Jamie Ramsay of Chesapeake, Virginia; Mike Ramsay of Greenville, South Carolina; Lisa Arney of Winter Garden, Florida; Bill Ramsay of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; Chris Ramsay of Marietta, Georgia; and Elaine Flanagan of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. He is also lovingly remembered by his 19 grandchildren, who brought him tremendous pride and joy.
Lou had a lifelong love of sports and rarely missed the opportunity to watch college or professional football, basketball or baseball. His own love of athletics began early, as he played football and baseball in high school and later rode a motorcycle during his college years. He closely followed current events and was known to drift off to sleep with CNN or MSNBC playing in the background. He was also an adventurous eater who never passed up the chance to try something new — though he always made sure to save room for dessert, especially coffee ice cream, his favorite.
Before Parkinson’s disease limited his mobility, Lou lived an active life and enjoyed bike riding, swimming, and power walking — often at a pace that made leisurely strolls nearly impossible for anyone beside him!
Though sometimes a man of few words, Lou showed his love and interest through careful listening and thoughtful questions. He cherished time spent with family, especially the lively Ramsay Thanksgiving gatherings where “Papa Lou” happily sat in the center of the chaos, enjoying second helpings and watching his family fall naturally back into their familiar rhythms together.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Association of Central Florida, which provides support and resources for people living with Parkinson’s disease in Lou and Lib’s local community. Donations can be made here: Parkinson Association of Central Florida Donations
