Charles Stone

July 7, 1939 — July 26, 2019

Winter Garden

Charles Stanley Stone, 80, affectionately called “Charlie” by those close to him, passed away at Orlando Regional Medical Center on Friday, July 26, 2019, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Charlie was born on July 7th, 1939, in Narrows, Virginia, to parents Chas E. Stone and Dolly Isaac. After graduating Vinson High School in 1958, Eagle went on to move to Winter Garden, Florida, in 1978.

Those who knew Charlie remember him as a patriotic man who loved his country. A veteran of the Navy, he proudly served on the USS Saratoga during the early years of his life. Charlie’s unmatched and impressive work ethic later led him to a successful career as a Master Plumber, and you could often hear him say, “There’s no such thing as a two-man job.” When Charlie wasn’t working, he enjoyed golfing, camping, riding his motorcycle, and his sacred Friday night rook games. More than anything, however, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Charlie is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of almost 60 years, Ardella Lou Stone; sons, Troy D. Stone (Nicole) and Trenton D. Stone (Lisa); brother, Edward Stone of Huntington, West Virginia, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Bob Stone. Charlie will be missed deeply by his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 11, 2019, from 1-3 PM at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Charlie’s family requests that a donation be made in his honor to the Jimmy Crabtree Cancer Fund. Donations can be made by visiting jccancerfund.org.

Charlie’s family would like to take this opportunity to give a special thanks to the staff in the 8LP Cancer Wing of ORMC for the care, compassion, and support that they showed Charlie.
